Central Otago, New Zealand
We have four very definite seasons which provide wondrous things for the enjoyment of all.
Summer:
Central Otago, Alexandra/Clyde in particular has long been a summer destination with people taking advantage of our hot dry climate to spend summer vacations. From these vacations times many folk choose to spend their retirement life here.
Autumn.
Always spectacular with vivid change of colours to Reds, Amber and Gold. Normally we enjoy hot still days with cooler nights to make sleeping easier.
Winter.
Can be a winter wonderland. Often brilliant blue skies with snowy capped mountains and hills or the magical hoar frosts that are a sight to behold and often have people traveling miles to see. For the motorbike enthusiast, the “Brass Monkey Rally” is held every Queen’s Birthday weekend in neighboring Oturehua.
Spring
Is so enchanting. Alexandra is renowned for its Annual Blossom Festival, now entering into its 48th year of celebration. Flora & Fauna springs forth with new life that has each one of us appreciating its beauty after the cold of Winter.
A paradise for the outdoors person with easy access to adventure sports e.g. mountain biking in our vast hills, kayaking, water skiing, fishing and hunting.
Our picturesque Rail Trail has become very popular for walkers, bikers, and horse riders and events such as “The Ghost to Ghost and Gold Rush attract many National and International participants.
